I’m always on a quest to find new places where I can enjoy a great cup of coffee or a fun dinner spot to take my family.
We are blessed with some incredible shops and restaurants throughout the Houston area, but if you are like me, sometimes the idea of driving across town can seem quite daunting (especially on a school night)! As tight knit as the Memorial area can be we have some incredible hidden gems right in our neck of the woods. Whether you are new to the Memorial area or you are a Memorial area veteran who is looking for different places to try, we have created a list of our favorite local shops, restaurants, boutiques and more!
We hope you find these helpful!
Initials Monogram Shop has been a staple in the Memorial area for precious gifts and monogramming.
The owner, Vanessa Vance, is absolutely wonderful! You can truly find a special gift for anyone and customize it! So thankful to have such a great shop close by.
Seafood Market at H Mart - very fresh and very reasonable seafood perfect for grilling at home!
Jonathan’s Rub has one of my favorite dishes for dinner- Chipotle rubbed & wrapped pork medallions w/ cheese grits (yum!!)
I love Leibman’s. My go to for lunch is their chicken salad sandwich with grapes, pecans, apples and celery- also great on top of a bed of greens. In addition to daily lunch specials, they have a nice gift shop in the front of the building and they offer occasional wine tastings.
Weidner Hasou has a beautiful showroom and they provide a wide array of design services.
They are very talented! The Goldpiece Pottery Candles are one of my favorite staples.
On a night that my husband, Eddie, and I are not cooking, The Houston Racquet Club has some off the menu items that are delicious. Eddie loves the Seared Ahi Tuna with Green Beans. I, on the other hand, gravitate towards their chicken Nachos.
I have enjoyed shopping at Unica by Nini Bekhradi 713.927.7215.
Nini has impeccable taste and can throw an outfit together like no other!
Need a Tex-Mex fix? Look no further- El Patio has got you covered! I’m pretty picky about my Tex Mex and Margarita, for that matter. Club no Minor, El Patio’s bar, may serve their margaritas in dainty glasses, but man do they pack a punch!
I have a huge Sweet tooth! The bakery, Sweet, off Town and Country Blvd. has the best macaroons and cupcakes.
True Food Kitchen, off Post Oak Blvd., is probably one of my favorite restaurants! You’ll find me sipping a spicy, Ginger Margarita and dining on their Spaghetti Squash Casserole (Gluten Free!) on their awesome patio. Yup, I’m a sucker for patios and a good marg!
Gerri Anne Looney:
Don’t let the exterior fool you! Vieng Thai, on Longpoint, has some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had. It’s BYOB…Yes, I do LOVE that place!
Punk’s Simple Southern Food has an especially good brunch!
88 Boiling Crawfish & Seafood Restaurant is a total dive and always crowded. They are clearly cooking up something good…always!
Lily Rain Boutique has a great clothing selection as well as jewelry. I especially love that I don’t have to make the trek to the Galleria to get a great, new outfit!
One of my Favorite Happy Hour spots is at Pour Society. I’m not a huge grapefruit juice fan, but I tried my co-workers Texas Greyhound that had fresh grapefruit juice, vanilla and Elderflower-OK, still not a GF enthusiast, but I actually ordered one of my own!
Ooh La La Bakery in Town & Country. Truly the most incredible chocolate cake I have ever had! Usually chocolate is way too rich for me, but this one is just right! They make mini cupcakes that are perfect for open houses or parties! It has quickly become my new favorite bakery!
Fuads has been a local’s hidden treasure for quite some time. They have live music, good drinks and no menu? They really do not have a menu- the chef will make you anything you want!
I love The Union Kitchen for any meal of the day! Their brunch has to be my favorite, though. They have a wonderful patio and bottomless mimosas on the weekend. My husband loves their fried chicken and biscuits with a fried egg. I love their California Benedict with a poached egg, tomato, avo and pecan smoked bacon.
Sweet Paris Creperie is a Parisian creperie bistro with breakfast, lunch and dessert crepes. You must try the Chicken Enchilada crepe! I love the interior space and the fact that they have a separate room off to the side that can be reserved for any small get together- baby shower, birthday- you name it!
Memorial Bakery has some of the best-baked goods in Houston, in my opinion. Order in advance and you can get any custom cookie for any occasion!
